Treehouse Productions awarded a Bronze Telly Award
Washington, DC- July 3, 2006–Martin Brown, of Treehouse Productions, was awarded a Bronze Telly Award for his documentary Teaching the Healers: The Story of Health Volunteers Overseas. Filmed in conjunction with HVO and funded in part by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, Teaching the Healers profiles the HVO-designed nurse anesthesia training program in Belize. The twenty minute video captures the personal and professional challenges and triumphs of training health care providers in resource poor nations.
Teaching the Healers provides a glimpse into the world of an HVO volunteer through the story of Linda Moore, CRNA, of Greensboro, NC, who traveled to Belize five times between 2001 and 2003 to help train the students. During that time, HVO volunteers trained two classes of Belizean nurses how to provide safe and effective anesthesia care, meeting the anethesia needs of the entire nation. The documentary serves as an educational resource for medical professionals, especially nurse anesthetists, who are interested in sharing their skills and knowledge overseas.

A private, non-profit membership organization, HVO was founded in 1986 to improve global health through education. HVO designs and implements clinical education programs in: child health, primary care, trauma and rehabilitation, essential surgical care, oral health, infectious disease, nursing education and burn management.
